Remembering Margaret "Debbie" Bouwmeester-Fasek (1956-2023)

“I find my inspiration everywhere in nature, color and texture. I live in an area where we have four seasons so I feel blessed to have a new color palette every four months. I also find inspiration from the colors and textures of embroidery floss, silks, metals and wools so often used in needle work projects.”

- Debbie Bouwmeester-Fasek - Needlenthread.com 2012

Debbie was a very active member of The Edmonton Needlecraft Guild for over 25 years. She was a driving force in the guild, always ready to plan and volunteer for guild activities.

She filled many volunteer positions, including three terms as guild president, during her long membership in ENG. She helped design a stitched picture of the Edmonton Skyline for the guild's 40th anniversary and organized our participation in the Festival of Trees.

Debbie used the patterns she designed for Three Swans Studios to teach us embroidery, punch needle, and quilting. She was also an excellent mentor, encouraging others to design and teach our own projects.

But most importantly, Debbie was a good friend. She welcomed us into her home with coffee and delicious home baking. Around her table, art was shared, plans were made, stitches were stitched. And always Debbie was there being encouraging, inclusive and generous, asking how we were and wanting to know our stories.

I know our stitching community will miss her very much.
