THEME: Arm Chair Traveller: Embroidering Canada

Celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday with the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild. From sea to sea to sea, Canada is a vast country of landscapes, wildlife and people. Members of the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild relive their travels in Canada by creating art embroidered from a place of comfort, their armchairs. They explore what Canada means to them in this exhibit of exquisite stitching.

ENG celebrates its Ruby Anniversary through a retrospective display. Each guild member submitted two pieces that illustrate their personal progression as a needle artist. Something from around the time they joined the guild and something recent.

THEME: Take a Bough

All members were encouraged to stitch at least one ornament in their favourite technique to decorate a tree. The Guild won a Gold ribbon in the Designer category of the Small Tree Division.

The Guild held a show at the Provincial Museum in conjunction with a travelling show entitled ‘Through the Eye of a Needle.’

The pieces cover a wide range of needlework techniques. They are framed pieces, some hangings, boxes and books. Our members explore contemporary techniques of their own design and traditional stitching from patterns.

For Universiade we designed and stitched five banners for the Standard Life Building, later moved to the Convention Centre and donated to the City in September 1983.
